Departments of Chemistry

Vision & Mission:

The Mission undertaken by Savitribai Phule Pune University is to strive for the realization of the goals beautifully spelt out by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru when he says that, "The University stands for humanism and tolerance, for reason, for adventure of ideas and for the search of truth. It stands for the forward march of the human race towards even higher objectives. If the universities discharge their duties adequately then it is well with the nation and the people."

The mission of the department is fulfilled through the research, teaching and service activities of its faculty, staff and students. The department is committed to the pursuit of original research by its faculty members and research associates, and through the research training of doctoral students. Its aim is to produce skilled man power of well trained chemists, capable of taking up positions in various socio economic sectors of the country.

Goals of the Department:

From the beginning, the Department has tuned itself to the following aims and objectives:

  • To produce skilled man power of well trained chemists, capable of taking up positions in various socio economic sectors of the country.
  • To build research capabilities as required by the national development and academic needs.
  • To develop capabilities for the provision of consultancy and technical services as well as short term specialized training to both public and private sectors.
  • To produce teachers who will choose, produce and make use of local resources and educational media to enrich students' learning.
  • To inspire the students towards better understanding and use of IT/Computer oriented interphase.
  • To disseminate knowledge on chemistry and related areas through active participation in related professional activities, such as Chemical Societies of India, Regional Networking, Workshops, Symposia/Conferences and Publications.
